TEnSIL - Traffic and EnviroNment Simulator for Iot via Leo satellite

The purpose of  TEnSIL is to estimate the performance of the aggregate traffic focusing in particular on the Return Link (Terminal to Satellite communication). The goals that TEnSIL aim to achieve are:

  • Simulate the aggregate RL traffic and evaluate different trade-off like conducted power, MAC mechanism, Antenna EM pattern and others. Of course, self collision is one of the most critical aspects;
  • Collect the aggregate traffic in a unique stream that is used to validate satellite communication Payload;
  • Extract parameter to create a Satellite-Terminal simulator (that includes alien and self interference) with the target to validate the Terminal design.

 

 

Description

The overall simulation consists of two models:

Model_A :

1. LEO satellite flight model

2. Automatic or manual terminal distribution in a certain shell surface

3. A certain MAC (Medium Access Control) policy is assumed for example based on the elevation angle and terminal packet transmission time is extracted for all terminals. So, in practice, the packet time is defined.

4. Based on Satellite to Terminal absolute position vs Time the slate range is derived. Also, packet payload is defined.

Model_B :

1. Based on previous four models (Model A, consisting in 1., 2., 3. 4.) a packet configuration description is generated

  • Slate range vs Time permits to derive other effects like doppler or doppler rate.
  • The output is a Packet file descriptor.

2. Model B Return Link Baseband Physical layer model. It consists of N packets terminal models and related channels. Such signal components are summed with AWGN and interferences received by satellite antenna.

■TEnSIL is supporting at the moment LoRa FHSS and LoRa CSS but can support multiple communication standards in the future.

3. Satellite baseband samples I/Q: different file formats can be supported (.mat and .csv).
